Topia Files for U.S. Patent on Exclusive Technology to Power City-Wide Cost & Commute Calculator

New Feature Helps Relocating Employees Find Ideal Residence by Calculating Commute Time for Every Mode of Transport, Balanced with Real Estate Rental Costs Instantaneously

SAN FRANCISCO (December 6, 2018)— Global Mobility Management (GMM) company Topia today announced it has filed a U.S. patent application for adaptive grids, its groundbreaking geoinformation technology. Adaptive grids power the global mobility industry’s first interactive city-wide cost and commute calculator used in Topia’s new Neighborhood Planner to help relocating employees find their ideal home based on commute time and predicted rent.

Neighborhood Planner is part of Topia Go, the company’s employee-facing relocation app that provides a real-time overview of move status and tasks along with tools, content and guidance to help ensure a seamless transition to their new destination. This new capability allows employees who are preparing for a move to quickly and easily see commute time from every residence in town to their new office location by walking, driving, biking or using public transportation.

“We built Neighborhood Planner in response to a customer pain point: relocating employees can spend weeks researching neighborhoods in various real estate portals in advance of a move,” said Topia Chief Product Officer Sten Tamkivi. “Our technology simplifies that process, making it easier for mobile employees to find the right neighborhood that not only fits their lifestyle and budget but also makes sense from a logistical perspective. And, we can do it instantaneously, between any two locations for commute by any means.”

While navigation and map systems can find distance and travel time between two known points, relocating employees often have to guess the location of their new home until they’ve completed extensive research of properties. Topia’s technology lets them see commute times and cost estimates before they even start looking to help narrow down the choices.

Calculating unpredictable commute routes entails hundreds of millions of combinations with considerations for population density, non-residential areas, terrain and other parameters. Topia’s patent-pending technology performs these computations in advance, updating regularly whenever any information changes. This allows Topia to display a visual representation on the map for the user instantaneously. Displayed alongside rental price estimates, this allows employees who are preparing to move to make better decisions about where to live, which can have a direct positive impact on their relocation experience and in their day-to-day life.

Topia’s GMM platform provides a comprehensive suite to help companies seamlessly manage high-performance mobility programs that help attract, engage and retain top talent while enabling organizational agility. With end-to-end support for mobility-based cost estimates, complete visibility and granular reporting across the entire mobility program, and employee tools and dashboards to help them easily manage their relocation, Topia provides the most efficient, fully-automated solution for an organization’s global mobility program.
